Livio Bandiera Scholarship 2019
The deadline to apply is April 30, 2019 for the Livio Bandiera Scholarship award.
This award is given annually by Local 607 in recognition of the over fifty years of selfless service and contributions to our local union by Livio Bandiera, Past President. In honour of Brother Bandiera, Local 607 will award a $2,000 scholarship to the son, daughter, or dependent child of a member, or to a member of the local union.
To qualify the scholarship recipient can be entering ANY YEAR of a full-time course of study leading to a diploma, certificate or degree from any recognized public college or university.
The Livio Bandiera Scholarship recipient can be entering ANY YEAR of a full-time course of study leading to a diploma, certificate or degree from any recognized public college or university. The criteria for selection of the scholarship winner are the following:
1. Evidence of superior scholastic ability (transcript of high school marks, recommendation from the Principal, etc.) 25 points;
2. A short statement of interests and goals and any other information the applicant feels is relevant, 25 points;
3. Evidence of understanding the role and significance of unions in the world today, 50 points.
In order to satisfy point three (3) above, applicants will be required to submit an essay of not more than 1,000 words on the topic of "The economies of most countries in the world, including Canada, have struggled in recent years. While continuing to protect the rights of its members, what other roles(s) can the union movement play in the revitalization of our economy, particularly here in Northern Ontario?”
