Building New Pathways for Women in the Trades

LiUNA Local 607 is preparing to welcome two cohorts of women to its Women in Trades Residential Construction Worker Training Program, creating new opportunities for participants to explore careers in the construction industry.

The first nine-week cohort begins July 21 at the LiUNA Local 607 Training Centre on Balmoral Street. Each cohort will welcome 12 women and provide hands-on training at no cost to participants.

The program is designed to help women develop practical residential construction skills, earn industry-recognized certifications and gain the confidence and experience needed to pursue employment or apprenticeship opportunities.

The upcoming cohorts build on the momentum of LiUNA Local 607’s Women in Trades Workshop, held in May.

The workshop gave attendees an opportunity to try hands-on construction activities, meet the instructors and learn more about careers in the industry. It also provided a preview of the training environment and the skills participants can expect to develop during the full program.

The strong interest in the workshop reflects a growing demand for accessible training opportunities that help women enter fields where they have traditionally been underrepresented.

Construction offers a wide range of rewarding career paths, but getting started can be challenging without access to training, equipment and industry connections.

By removing the cost of participation and combining practical instruction with recognized certifications, the Women in Trades program will give participants a stronger foundation for entering the workforce.

LiUNA Local 607 is proud to help more women explore the skilled trades, build job-ready skills and see a future for themselves in construction.
