WHAT WE DO.

We build
Highways and bridges, waterways and dams, hospitals, schools and government institutions. We make streets, communities, cities and provinces work. From low rise to high rise construction, pouring concrete to landscaping homes, we literally and figuratively build Canada.
Across Canada LiUNA represents working men and women in a wide range of industries.

Building Construction
LiUNA members build office towers, apartment buildings, schools, sports facilities, shopping malls, parking garages, factories and many other types of buildings, including houses.

Heavy Construction and Highway Construction
LiUNA members build roadways, bridges, dams, power plants and other major construction projects.

Manufacturing & Commerce
Although LiUNA began in 1903 as a construction union, our members now work in many types of factories and processing plants. We also work in stores, offices, hotels, restaurants and offices.

Public Sector
Government-funded services is one of the fastest-growing areas of LiUNA membership, from hospitals and nursing homes to school boards, municipal streets and parks departments, waste management and recreation, to name just a few.

Join as an Apprentice or Skilled Labourer

Whether it’s in the workplace or in the classroom, the skills apprentices gain lead to challenging, rewarding and profitable jobs in an industry that provides tremendous opportunities.

Providing hands-on training for people who enjoy learning by doing, LiUNA apprentices:
  • are paid while gaining work experience
  • receive wages increase as level of skill increases
  • do not pay for their education
About 90 per cent of apprenticeship training is provided by employers in the workplace. The remainder involves classroom instruction and theory, which is provided at each Local’s Training Centre.  Apprentices from LiUNA training are considered by employers to be among the most productive, conscientious, qualified and safety-oriented individuals in the industry.

If you're currently working non-union, we can help.  JOIN US... It’s easy!

Those who can demonstrate construction skills may be initiated without having to participate in the apprenticeship program. Contact the affiliated LiUNA local closest to you, for more information on joining LiUNA where you live.
