Coming Together to Support Food Security

Addressing food insecurity requires organizations, volunteers, sponsors and community members to work together.

On April 18, 2026, LiUNA Local 607 was proud to serve as the presenting sponsor of Trivia Night at the Knights of Columbus Centre. The event brought people together for an evening of friendly competition while raising support for the Dew Drop Inn and Roots Community Food Centre.

Local 607 presented a $10,000 contribution to support meal programs delivered by the two organizations, including programs serving seniors and Elders in Thunder Bay.

The Dew Drop Inn provides hot meals and bagged lunches to anyone who comes through its doors. Its Compassion Kitchen serves people throughout the year while offering an environment built on dignity, respect and inclusion.

Roots Community Food Centre works to address food insecurity by bringing people together through healthy food, education and community programming. Its initiatives include free, home-cooked meals for seniors and Elders, helping participants access nutritious food while building valuable social connections.

The Trivia Night sponsorship helped ensure that more of the proceeds from the event could directly support the work of both organizations.

Events such as Trivia Night demonstrate what can be accomplished when local organizations, businesses, unions and residents unite around a shared cause.
